    Check out Paramo jackets. They are pretty good and use different technology. I like the ones that you can buy separately as fleece inner and fine-weave outer jackets, as they combine for winter wet weather but can be used separately for other weather conditions.

  3. My experience with affordable breathable rain gear so far is that it’s neither breathable nor watertight. Great to hear that expensive gear isn’t much better.

  5. Idk, late to the party, but I feel like calling this a scam is a bit much. I think even with the limitations of gore tex etc., that you amazingly discussed and pointed out, I still have a jacket that is decently breathable, and decently waterproof, just not both at once. Yes, for prolonged trekking in wet conditions, there are better solutions, but for casual hiking and everyday use I am quite happy with the DWR jackets I have owned.
