  1. MUH sponsor!

    Lol

  2. You think decathlon is a budget friendly puffy jacket?! Zero exposure is about a 1/3 as expensive but 90% as effective.

  3. -Agree on ALMOST all of that…
-NEVER put your PLB on or in your pack! (I don’t know WHY people keep doing that!), put it on your belt or even in your pocket!! (I prefer and recommend an InReach Mini 3+, rugged, self-contained)
-Tell TWO (or more) RESPONSIBLE people in DIFFERENT social circles what your plans are AND give them an information sheet VIA EMAIL with ALL pertinent information INCLUDING your PIICTURE and an image of your BOOT PRINT!
-PLANNING is the first of The FIVE Essential Steps, this is a RESEARCH INTENSIVE activity! Yes, include a contingency plan AND a plan to quit and go home! (failure IS an option!)
-Pack everything you need and USE everything you pack (preferably more than once)

  4. Another tip: it’s okay for things to go wrong, because they will!As long as you’re safe, it’s not the end of the world!

My first backpacking trip was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. But here’s a list of everything that went wrong:

    – The “trail” had overgrown to the point where I was bushwhacking the entire way
    – I didn’t make it to my designated campsite before dark (where I had stashed water)so I had to camp in my backup spot. The only nearby water sources were puddles, so that’s all I had to drink for that night + next day. Thank god I brought a filter!
    – Had to put my tent in a dry stream bed and pray it wouldn’t rain, because it was the only spot out of the wind (which was 50 mph, and my entire tent kept blowing away)
    – I lost one of my stakes and had to put a rock in the corner of my tent

Did all of this ruin my trip? Hell no! Despite all this, I had an absolute blast, and I will remember it fondly forever!

  5. or just walk barefoot 😉
